Samsung Galaxy 2 Chromebook for just £319.99 in the UK

One of the biggest issues I have when it comes to buying a cheap Chromebook is the display. Of course, you do get some with a decent IPS panel and Full HD resolution. However, most cheaper devices usually come with a TN panel and SD resolution.

The Samsung Galaxy 2 Chromebook has budget specs when it comes to the processor, but that display isn’t going to disappoint.

If you’re looking for a relatively cheap laptop that looks great and has an amazing display. Then you may be interested in this offer. You can currently get the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 from Argos in the UK for £319.99. That’s £99 off the original price of £419.00.

Samsung Galaxy 2 Chromebook

This is perhaps a bit of a strange offering from Samsung because it goes against everything you would normally see. It looks great and is certainly compact enough thanks to the 12.4-inch display. Usually, displays of this size and at this price would come with SD resolution or you might get lucky and find one with an HD resolution of 1,920 by 1,080.

The Galaxy 2 Chromebook comes with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600, which is an amazing resolution at this price. A Chromebook with a 14 or 15-inch display would look great with this resolution, so expect exceptional crisp images and text when you get all those pixels crammed into a display of 12.4-inches.

It will also mean Android apps will look great and are perfect for this device thanks to the Hybrid 2-in-1 design. The 2-in-1 design allows you to use it in either laptop or tablet mode, which also means it comes with a touchscreen display. Perfect to get the very best from ChromeOS.

All the ports you need

The Galaxy 2 Chromebook isn’t going to let you down when it comes to connectivity. You’ll find both the older USB A ports and USB Type-C ports are available. This is great because it means you’ll be able to use older peripherals that may only support Type-A without the need for an adapter.

The newer USB Type C ports will be needed if you have newer hardware to connect, which only supports USB Type-C. Also, the USB Type-C ports can be used to charge the device or to connect an external monitor.

A headphone jack is provided, which is really nice to see. Although most of us today use Bluetooth headphones it’s still nice to see a headphone/mic jack. It also means you can use an external mic if you want the best audio sound quality during video calls or if you regularly create videos.

The Micro SD slot allows you to easily add further storage at a later date. The good thing about SD card storage is that you can get SD cards at a really cheap price, so it’s one of the cheapest ways to add further storage to your laptop.

Galaxy Chromebook 2 performance

There may be other models available that offer higher-performing processors. This particular model, which is the XE520QEA comes with an Intel Celeron N4500 processor. It has a base speed of 1.1 GHz and a turbo boost speed of 2.8 GHz. It also comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Find out more about How much RAM you need for a Chromebook.

For the majority of people, these specs are all you will need when using ChromeOS. Considering most of us use our laptops for surfing the internet, school or college work, social media, and watching YouTube videos. The specs here are just fine when you have ChromeOS installed. It’s a much lighter OS than Windows, so you don’t need high-performing processors to get tasks done.

Sure, you may find some Android apps load a little slower, but you should still be able to use the majority of apps without any issues. Any online work inside the browser or if you’re using a PWA will work just fine. This is the beauty of ChromeOS, you get most things done online, so the performance of the laptop isn’t that important for the basics.

I really like the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2. Not everyone needs a high-performing Chromebook with an Intel i5 processor, so why pay for such a device if you don’t need it?

If you want to use Linux apps then I’d look elsewhere because the performance isn’t going to be strong enough for that type of stuff. However, to do the basics such as web browsing, word processing or watching videos; the Samsung Galaxy 2 will do just fine.

Most budget Chromebooks are always let down by looking a little cheap. That just isn’t the case here, as it’s a great-looking laptop. Also, that display is amazing to find on a laptop this cheap. Having a decent display is really important because it’s what gets you engaged with what you’re doing.

If you’re looking for a budget Chromebook that looks the part and comes with an amazing display. Then you can’t really go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy 2 Chromebook. Also, the silver outer casing with the black interior looks superb!
