The recent news about Microsoft removing Android Apps for Chome OS. Has got a lot of people worrying about how they’ll use MS Office Apps in the future. Microsoft Office will still be available by visiting a web address. To use MS office you need to pay the subscription fee. Chromebook users do have an alternative, which is the Google Docs office suite.

The great thing about Google Docs is that it’s free to use. These docs are built into Chrome OS, so you can access them easily. Google Docs work by visiting a web address. To use Google Docs you need a Google Account, which is something you’ll have if you use a Chromebook. Google Docs offers a word processor, spreadsheet program and a slides program. There are much more available, but these are the most common packages people are looking for.

These office apps offer everything that the majority of people need. Therefore, if you own a Chromebook I would strongly recommend using Google Docs. It makes no sense to pay a subscription fee to use MS Office. When you can use Google Docs for free. The best thing is you can access your documents from any device.

Google Docs word processor

The Google Docs word processor offers a huge amount of options. It may take a little time to get used to using it if you’re used to using MS Word. However, a word processor is a pretty basic package. You’ll find you can do almost everything possible in MS word using the Google Docs program.

The good news is you can also edit MS word docs, so you can still open and edit existing documents you created in Word. When it comes to creating new word processor documents. Again, you have the option to save these as a Google Doc or an MS doc. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about any incompatibility issues if you need to send a document to someone that only uses MS word.

The fact this program is free to use and has all the functionality you need from a word processor. It’s now time to use this package over MS office. The news Microsoft will be removing Android Apps for MS office. Will mean you’ll need to use a web address to use their office packages in the future. This is very similar to how you use Google Docs. Because it will cost you money to use MS Office whilst Google Docs is free to use. Makes choosing Google docs a benefit when it comes to saving money.

Google Sheets

Google Sheets which is the Google Docs version of Excel is a very powerful program. I’ve used it for many years and I can do everything I used to do with Excel using Google Sheets. There is no doubt that Excel is a great spreadsheet program. However, if you spend some time with Google Sheets you’ll realise it’s just as good.

Again, you can save sheets using an Excel extension, so you don’t need to worry about compatibility issues. Google sheets also provide functionality, which is not available in Excel. Some of these functions are really powerful and makes Google Sheets one of the best spreadsheet programs available.

Google Sheets

If you want to know more about Google Sheets. Have a look at the how to use Google Sheets section of this website. You’ll find easy to use guides to help you get used to using Google Sheets. Once you’ve used Google Sheets for a while. You’ll soon realise that it offers everything you need. Also, in general, spreadsheets all work the same when it comes to formulas. This means you don’t need to worry about learning a whole new way of working with formulas.

Google Slides

Google Slides is a great PowerPoint alternative that you can use on your Chromebook. I’ve been using it for some time now and I prefer it over Powerpoint. It’s very similar to use, so it isn’t difficult to get used to using Google Slides.

Give Google Docs a try

I would strongly encourage you to give Google Docs a try. If you’ve been using MS office for some time. Then it will take you a little time to get used to the new software. However, they all work roughly the same.

The future of computing is to carry out most tasks from a web address. It’s a much better way to work. You don’t need to worry about buying programs outright or paying for a subscription. Updates are done automatically, so you’ll always be using the latest software.

Google Docs also work seamlessly with Google Drive. This means all the documents you create can be saved in the cloud. This makes it easy to access these documents from any of your devices. You could create a spreadsheet on your Chromebook using Google Sheets, and easily access this on any other device you own such as your Android phone.

I hope people start to realise paying for a program when you have a free option is a waste of money. If Google Docs were inferior to MS office I would understand. This is not the case. Google Docs is a great office suite and I never use MS office anymore. All Chromebook users should move over to Google Docs and save some money at the same time.
