Asus C434 14-inch Chromebook

The Asus C434 Chromebook was the direct replacement of the successful Asus C302. Because of this, it had to provide us with something excellent. There were so many people who owned an Asus C302, so they'd expect the replacement to be just as good or even better. Luckily, The C434 delivered on everything it promised and was a fantastic replacement to the Asus C302. A slightly larger display at 14-inches compared to the 12.5-inches that the Asus C302 offered.

The Asus C434 is still a very popular choice because it offers everything you need from Chrome OS. It's considered a medium-spec Chromebook, which is perfect for most people. However, this has now changed with newer configuration models being released, so you can get a high-spec C434. After it was released it was shortly follower by two other Asus devices the C433 and C436. The C433 is considered a slightly lower-end device and the C436 is considered a high-spec device. That being said, the C436 is very expensive for what it offers.

THE SPECS

When it comes to the specs you'll be happy to know there is an Asus C434 to suit everyone. This is because it's available in many different specs. You can find this laptop with an Intel M3, Intel i5 and Intel i7 processor. Because there are so many specs available it can be a little confusing to choose the one that is right for you. Also, different retailers stock different spec types, so not all specs are available at all retailers.

The RAM ranges from 4GB to 8GB for the M3 model and for the i5 and i7 models the RAM is 8GB. This is similar to the storage ranging from 64 GB to 128 GB. Some manufacturers claim they have models with eMMC and other models with SSD. eMMC is a cheaper storage option generally found on most Chromebooks. SSD storage is a much-preferred option and is generally only found on high-spec devices. Before buying any model ensure you know what you'll be getting in terms of specs.

THE DISPLAY

The display you get with the Asus C434 is beautiful. This is thanks to the super-slim bezels, which Asus has become well known for. These super-slim bezels around the display not only makes the laptop look professional and expensive. It also means the 14-inch display is fit into a nice 13-inch compact chassis.

It's a Full HD display with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080, which means it's perfect for streaming HD movies. It also comes with an IPS panel, which is what you'd expect to see from medium spec devices. The IPS panel will give you great viewing angles and it makes images feel more alive as the colour reproduction is more vivid.

AUE DATE

All Chromebooks come with an Automatic Update Expiry Date (AUE Date). Until this date is reached the device will continue to receive automatic updates to the operating system. This is important because the Chrome OS operating system receives updates about every six weeks. Some of these updates are to add further functionality and improve the functionality already available. These updates can also include vital security updates.

Once the AUE date has expired it is not guaranteed that your Chromebook will receive any future updates for Chrome OS. The reason why the AUE Date exists is to keep Chrome OS fast, secure and easy to use. Chrome OS needs to be able to improve the operating system without having to consider laptops, which are really old. To do this the AUE date is used, so older laptops do not stop the Chrome OS team from offering updates, which older laptops could not take advantage of.

CONNECTIVITY & OTHER SPECS

When it comes to connectivity you'll find the Asus C434 offers everything you'll need. It comes with both the older USB Type-A port and the newer USB Type-C port. This is good to see because it means you can still use older peripherals, which use USB Type-A without the need for an adaptor. The newer USB Type-C is much better because you can also use this port to connect an external monitor. Having both these USB ports available is good to see.

A Micro SD slot is available, which means you can easily add further storage at a later date. You can do this by buying an SD card. However, it's important to remember you cannot install Android Apps on an SD card. The upgraded storage can only be used to store other files locally.

CHROMEBOOK REVIEWS

Before buying a Chromebook it's good to read some reviews about it on the web. The Specs will help to a certain point, but reading or watching reviews will give you more of an idea about the laptop. Whenever you read a review you need to remember it's the opinion of the person writing the review, which you're digesting. Therefore, it's a much better option to read a few reviews, so you can make your own opinion about the Chromebook.
