Acer CB315 Chromebook (CB315-3HT) Specification Review
If you're looking for a budget Chromebook, which offers you everything then the Acer CB315 is a good place to look. Acer has been offering us some great Chromebooks for many years now. Whether that is a budget one or one offering excellent specs like the Acer Spin 713. The Chromebook has long been recognised as offering great value for money. This is because budget devices have been available since they were launched back in 2011.
The problem with most budget devices is they offer pretty rubbish specs, so it can be very difficult to get a decent budget laptop. That being said, in the last couple of years we've seen more Budget Chromebooks offer something you'd expect to see from a medium-spec device. This is great and is something I've been wanting to see for a long time. So let's take a closer look at the Acer CB315 Chromebook.
THE SPECS
Unlike most budget Chromebooks, which tend to come with an Intel Celeron dual-core processor. The Acer CB315 uses an Intel Pentium N5000 quad-core processor. This means double the amount of processing cores, so you can expect to see much better performance than a basic Intel Celeron processor. The quad-core processor has a clock speed of 1.1 GHz and is capable of a turbo boost of 2.7 GHz. Pretty impressive for a budget priced laptop.
It comes with 4GB of RAM, which is enough for most people. You can easily use this Chromebook to surf the internet, use social media, word processing, spreadsheets and Android Apps. You should also have no problems playing PC games using Nvidia GeForce Now or console-style games using Stadia. Yes, it's true the performance will not match a medium-spec Chromebook with a better processor and more RAM. That being said, this laptop will not let you down when it comes to the majority of things you can do on a Chrome OS device in 2021.
The 64 GB of storage is more than enough to install plenty of Android Apps and still have space left over for other files. However, you should try to avoid saving too many files locally and take advantage of the cloud computing capabilities of the Chromebook and save them in the cloud.

THE DISPLAY
It's an unusual Chromebook because it comes with a whopping 15.6-inch display. You'll not find many Chrome OS devices with a display larger than 14-inches. This is great for anyone who wants to use a laptop for work. Especially spreadsheets, and the separate number pad will also come in handy for number crunching.
It's a Full HD display offering a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080, which is absolutely perfect for the size of the display. A resolution less than this on such a large display would not be very pretty to look at. This model also comes with a touchscreen making it perfect for using Android Apps.
What is also good to see is the panel is IPS. This means you'll be able to view the display at an angle without any deterioration to the quality of the information showing the on screen. An IPS panel also gives a much better colour reproduction, so the images pop out of the display. It's great to see Full HD and IPS being used on a budget device.

CHROMEBOOK TYPE
This is a laptop only, which means you cannot use this device as a tablet. You can find Hybrid Chromebooks, which can be used as both. However, I don't think a Hybrid is too important. What's more important is whether the display is touchscreen. A touchscreen display means you can use Android Apps like you would if you were using a tablet. The Acer 315 touchscreen is all you need to take full advantage of what Chrome OS offers.
The CB315 keyboard also comes with a numerical pad. This is not often seen on a laptop. It's a great addition to the keyboard and will make it great for anyone who needs to do some serious number crunching.

CONNECTIVITY & OTHER SPECS
It's important to make sure the Chromebook you have your eye on comes with all the connectivity you may need. The Acer CB315 offers good connectivity because it offers both the older and newer type USB ports. You'll find two USB A ports and two newer USB C ports. The A ports are good to see for anyone who owns older hardware they want to connect to their laptop.
The two newer USB Type-C ports means you'll also have no issues if you want to connect newer hardware, which does not support USB Type-A. This makes the CB315 highly versatile when it comes to connectivity. USB Type - C can also be used to charge your device and connect an external display.
The Micro SD slot will allow you to add further storage at a later date. This is good to see if you feel the 64 GB of local storage may not be enough. Better still, SD storage is a relatively cheap way to add further storage to your Chromebook.
