When you’re considering buying a laptop with a 15.6-inch display. You’re immediately going to be limited in the laptops you can choose from. They are far less popular than 14-inch laptops and below. Also, they don’t usually have much to write home about when it comes to style and build quality.

The latest Chromebook from Asus goes against this because it looks stunning. For a long time, Asus has adopted all over silver finish aluminium bodies. They look great, but I was getting a little bored of the look. Their latest Asus C536 Flip has an all-new stunning colour design. White on the outside and black when you open up the Chromebook. This contrast in colours looks great.

The Asus C536 wins hands down when it comes to build quality and looks. So you’d only expect the rest of this Chromebook to deliver. Well, there is no question about it. This is a great laptop for anyone looking for a slightly larger than normal 15.6-inch display.

Asus C536 performance

Most people looking for a laptop with a 15.6-inch display need it for productivity. Either that or they are looking for a larger display for playing games. Both of these tasks will work much better with a better-performing laptop. The Asus C536 delivers on performance thanks to the Intel i3 eleventh-generation processor.

This dual-core processor comes with a base speed max turbo clock speed of 4.10 GHz. The 6MB cache, which is pretty huge for cache will make regular processes perform much quicker. This means this laptop will easily deal with all the different tasks you’d want to carry out on a Chrome OS laptop.

Whether that is internet surfing, streaming HD videos, or using large spreadsheets. The Asus C536 will cope with all of these tasks without any issues. The benefit of the larger display makes it perfect for spreadsheet use. Also, that larger 15.6-inch display means Asus was able to add a separate number pad. Ideal for number crunching.

The 8GB of RAM you get with the Asus C536 is the right choice for this processor. This will without question help with the performance you get from this Chromebook.

Asus C536 Storage

When it comes to storage you’ll find Asus has provided enough to do everything you need. At 128GB, which is pretty large for a Chromebook. You’ll easily be able to install plenty of Android and Linux Apps.

This is really good to see because Linux apps now work great on the Chromebook. If you want to get the most out of your laptop. Then I’d strongly recommend taking a look at the type of Linux apps that are available.

Most Chromebooks come with the cheaper eMMC type of storage. Perfectly fine to use, but when it comes to working with large files. You cannot beat SSD storage. The Asus C536 uses the more expensive SSD storage. This means you’ll see much better performance when it comes to working with larger files.

Asus C536 Display

The 15.6-inch display is perfect for anyone who wants a larger display. Great for spreadsheets or playing the latest games. It comes with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 by 1,080. The IPS panel that is used also means you’ll get great viewing angles and more vivid true to life images.

It’s a Hybrid Chromebook, which means you can use it as a laptop or a tablet. This also means it comes with a touchscreen display, which is great when using Android Apps. Whether you’d want to use a 15.6-inch tablet is something I’m not too sure about.

However, the benefit of being a Hybrid is that you get that all-important touchscreen. Without a touchscreen, you’re limited to the type of Android Apps you can use. Although you can use many Android apps without one. You’re limited to an extent when using a laptop without a touchscreen.

Connectivity

The connectivity available on this laptop will not let you down. You get an older type USB-A port, which is important if you’re still using older peripherals that use this type of port. You’ll also find two newer USB-type C ports, which newer peripherals tend to come with.

The USB Type-C ports are good to see because these can also be used to charge your laptop. On top of that, they can be used to connect your laptop to an external display. However, you don’t need to use these ports to connect an external display. This is because the Asus C536 also comes with an HDMI port. Very good to see because not many laptops offer this in 2021.

If you need to add further storage at a later date you’ll be happy to know a Micro SD slot is also available. However, it’s important to recognise this cannot be used to install more apps. It can be used for data created using apps. Very important if you’re intending on using Linux apps, so it’s good to see a Micro SD slot is available.

Is this Chromebook right for you?

If you’re looking for a laptop with a 15.6-inch display. Then you’ll not be disappointed with what is on offer here. Not only does it look stunning with the white and black colour contrast. This Chromebook will perform perfectly well thanks to the eleventh-generation Intel i3 processor that is used.

More than enough processing power for anything you’ll want to do on Chrome OS. Also, the SSD storage used is really good to see and you’ll notice the difference when working with larger files.
