If you’re looking for a Chromebook that is lightweight and durable then this is the one for you. It makes it the perfect Chromebook for the traveller, student or just about anyone who needs a sturdy laptop you can rely on.
Another great thing about the Asus C202 is the price. This Chromebook falls into the budget range, so don’t expect it to compete against high-spec models. However, if you’re looking for a bargain and happy to accept some downfalls you’ll not go wrong with the Asus C202 Chromebook.
ASUS C202 BUILD QUALITY
The Asus C202 has been built to take a lot of knocks along the way. This is what makes it perfect for students, travellers and as a second Chromebook to take to work or on holiday with you.
It comes in a hard plastic shell and a dark blue rubber shield all around the edge of the device. This makes the Asus C202 one of the hardiest of Chromebooks you can buy. It will easily take a few knocks and even drops along the way without you having to worry about it giving up on you.
This makes it perfect as a secondary Chromebook if you’d rather leave your higher-spec one at home. It’s also ideal for students as well because it has been designed to last.
You would think all this protection would have an impact on the weight. This is where I was pleasantly surprised, as the Asus C202 is extremely lightweight at just 1.18kg. Another reason why this Chromebook will make a great travelling companion.
The keyboard is nice to use and the key travel works fine for a Chromebook in this price range. You’ll easily be able to type novels on this without getting frustrated with the keyboard.
ASUS C202 PERFORMANCE
The Asus C202 comes with an Intel Celeron N3060 processor with a base speed of 1.60GHz. However, it’s capable of reaching speeds of 2.48GHz when the time is needed.
The Intel Celeron range of processors is specifically made for budget laptops, so you should not expect blazing fast performance here. It’s the perfect laptop for internet surfing, word processing and spreadsheets. You can even use Android Apps on the C202.
When it comes to anything more than this then do not expect too much. It will start to struggle if you try to multi-task or use more advanced software. In fairness, this is the same with most budget Chromebooks. It’s great for everyday use just don’t expect amazing performance.

RAM & STORAGE
You get 2GB of RAM with the Asus C202, which is enough for everyday tasks. However, this is the absolute minimum you get with a Chromebook today, so don’t expect amazing performance if you use Android Apps that take up a lot of memory. For internet surfing and word processing the amount of memory is absolutely fine. If you’re unsure how much RAM you need, have a read of how much RAM does my Chromebook need.
The 16GB of storage is also rather limited. You’ll be able to store a few local files, but don’t expect to be able to install plenty of Android Apps. You’ll be able to install a few of your favourites but not much more than this. You can find out more by reading how much storage do I need for my Chromebook.
You’ll definitely want to take advantage of the Chromebooks cloud computing capability with this amount of storage. By using a cloud service such as Google Drive you’ll be able to save lots of files in the cloud. This will keep your local storage free for when it’s needed.
ASUS C202 DISPLAY
The Asus C202 comes with an 11.6-inch display and a resolution of 1,366 by 768. This resolution on a screen this size and in this price range is perfectly acceptable.
There is no IPS panel available here, which is no great shock when you consider the price. This means the Asus C202 is not great if viewing from an angle, so it’s definitely not going to be ideal if you need to share what’s on the screen with friends or family.
The screen does not support touch screen and the device is a laptop only. This means you cannot use it as a tablet like you’re able to do with more higher-spec devices. This is fine for anyone wanting a basic laptop but the lack of a touchscreen will make using Android Apps limited.
The Asus C202 comes with 2 x USB 3.0 ports, which is much faster than the older USB 2.0. It has a great WiFi strength, which makes it perfect for anyone struggling with WiFi blackspots in the home.
It also comes with 1 x HDMI, so you can connect it to an external display. You’ll be able to listen to music on the move thanks to the standard headphone jack that is available.
The Card Reader slot also means you can easily add extra storage at a later date. This is good to see with a Chromebook that comes with not much storage as standard.
The Asus C202 is perfect for people who need a Chromebook that is durable and lightweight. It was made for someone who needs a Chromebook to take with you when you leave the home.
The keyboard is good enough to type long essays on and using the Chromebook for internet surfing works perfectly fine. It’s not the fastest Chromebook out there, but you would not expect it to be when you consider the cost of the device.
If you’re after a bargain and a Chromebook you don’t need to worry about damaging. Then this may be the one for you.
