If you’re looking for a budget Chromebook, which offers you everything then this is a Chromebook you might be interested in. Most budget Chromebooks come with some compromises and that is usually a poor display. The Acer CB514-1HT has an excellent display, which is really nice to see on a budget device. Acer has been making Chromebooks for many years and some of the best are made by the manufacturer. If you are after a budget Chromebook then this one is perfect. If you’re after a higher-spec laptop then the Acer Spin 713 is possibly one of the best on the market.
It’s been around for a couple of years now, so if you’re after a Chromebook, which will give you Chrome OS updates for as long as possible. Then you may want to look elsewhere. However, this means you may find this Chromebook at a great bargain price.
The processor used is an Intel Celeron dual-core with a base speed of 1.1 GHz and a turbo speed of 2.4 GHz. This is pretty standard when buying a budget Chromebook, so you wouldn’t expect to see much more from the processor. That being said, if you’re going to be using the laptop for internet surfing, word processing, spreadsheets and Android Apps then you’ll be fine. This is what’s great about Chrome OS, you don’t need too much processing power to do these sort of tasks.
The 4GB of RAM is the perfect amount of RAM to work with the Intel Celeron processor. Any more RAM than this would be wasted on this processor. Again, 4GB of RAM is still more than enough in 2021 to carry out most tasks. You may find some Android Apps take longer to load due to the processor, but you should still be able to use all of them without any issues. The amount of storage at 128 GB is a huge amount, so you’ll be able to install plenty of Android Apps and have lots of storage leftover.

I’m really happy to see that Acer has provided a really decent display on a budget device. This is one of the things I find frustrating about most budget Chromebooks. Thankfully, you don’t need to worry about that if you’ve got your eyes on the CB514-1HT. The 14-inch display offers a Full HD resolution of 1,920 by 1,080, which is great to see. Not only that it comes with an IPS panel, which means the colours on the display are more vivid and everything just looks better. It also means you can view this laptop at an angle and you will not suffer from any deterioration in image quality.
Although this is a laptop only, which means you can’t use it as a tablet. This isn’t something I’d be too concerned about. If you’re intending on using Android Apps what matters more than it being a Hybrid is whether you get a touchscreen. The CB514-1HT comes with a touchscreen, which means it’s perfect for using all of the Android Apps available on the Play Store.

All Chromebooks come with an Automatic Update Expiry (AUE) date. Until this date is reached your Chromebook will continue to receive automatic updates of the Chrome OS operating system. These updates provide new functionality and improve the functionality already available. They also provide security updates, which help to keep you safe when surfing online. After the AUE date has expired you’ll stop receiving these updates.

CONNECTIVITY & OTHER SPECS
Connectivity is something you should consider when buying a new laptop. The Acer CB514-1HT offers all the connectivity you’ll need. This includes two older type USB A ports, which are perfect for anyone who wants to connect older hardware. If you’ve got a wireless mouse or keyboard that uses a Type-A connection, you don’t need to be concerned about any compatibility issues. This goes for any type of hardware, which you might own that uses the older Type A USB connection.
You’ll also find two newer USB Type C ports, which means newer peripherals you may own will also work with this Chromebook without any issues. It’s good to see both types of USB ports are available. The newer USB Type C ports can also be used to charge your device and connect an external display.
It also comes with a backlit keyboard, which is another reason why the Acer CB514-1HT is a much better device than the Acer CB514-1H. The Micro SD slot means you can easily add further storage down the line and the headphone jack will let you listen to your music using a wired pair of headphones. If you own a wireless pair you don’t need to worry because it also comes with Bluetooth connectivity.
