When it comes to buying a Chromebook many people are after one thing. A laptop that can do the majority of things most of us need at an affordable price. The great thing is a Chrome OS laptop is the perfect choice for a budget laptop.
Unlike budget laptops running Microsoft Windows, which are horrible and sluggish to use. A budget Chromebook runs pretty fast and that is thanks to the lightweight operating system it uses. I own a budget Chromebook and I use it a lot more than I ever thought.
I think the main reason is that it’s just so accessible. Unlike my more expensive Asus CX5 Chromebook, which is much bigger and heavier. My budget Acer 311 722 Chromebook is lightweight and made of plastic. Therefore, I can throw it under the bed, under the coffee table or just about anywhere. Meaning it’s always in a handy location when I next need to use it.
Samsung Chromebook 4 11.6-inch
You’ll notice I’ve put the display size in the title above. Well, I’ve done that for a reason because I think the display size is something we really need to discuss. Yes, a 14-inch Chromebook is great if you need it, but it makes the laptop a lot bulkier and less convenient for travel.
What I love about an 11.6-inch Chromebook is that it really is one of the most portable laptops you can own. This really gives you a sense of value for money because you can take it just about anywhere with you. It’s very similar to owning a tablet, which is always great for using on the move.
Although the Samsung 4 is made out of plastic it still looks pretty cool. The silver finish will never really go out of fashion, and it has a solid slab like build, which just makes it feel and look robust. Also, plastic isn’t all that bad because it makes it super lightweight at just 2.6lbs/1.17kg.
Samsung 4 11.6-inch Performance
We need to remember this is a budget Chromebook, so you should not expect an amazing processor. Something you really don’t need to worry about for the majority of tasks. I use my budget Chromebook to write blog posts, surf the web, use social media, and Android Apps, watching movies without any issues at all.
It’s capable of doing a lot more than that but they are the majority of tasks we need a laptop for. Therefore, if you can do all of these things on a budget Chromebook. You’ve really got to ask yourself the question, why pay more for a higher spec laptop if you don’t need it?
It comes with an Intel Celeron processor, which is dual-core and has a base speed of 1.10 GHz. When you need a little extra power you’ll be happy to know it has a turbo speed of 2.60 GHz. The 4MB cache will also make regular tasks perform much faster.
RAM & Storage
It comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. Yes, I’d agree 32GB of storage may not sound like a lot but it really depends on what you’ll be using your Chromebook for. It’s really important not to get sucked into thinking you need more specs than you actually do.
The fact that Chrome OS is a cloud computer means you can save most of your files in the cloud. Therefore, your local storage space should only really be used for installing Android apps. You can easily install your favourite Android apps without running out of space. It will be a juggling act, and you’ll have to not get too carried away. However, I think you’d be surprised with how much you can store on a 32 GB Chromebook.
As far as the RAM. You really do not have anything to worry about here. The number of times I hear people say you need more RAM now in 2022. Really, why is that? I’m always really confused. I swear they just read it somewhere and assume it must be true.
Newsflash: You can get on fine with a Chromebook with 4GB of RAM. Nothing has changed in the last couple of years in terms of tech to suggest anything different. Unsure, find out more about how much RAM you need for your Chromebook.
Samsung Chromebook 4 display
Ok, So I’ve got to level with you here. You’ll never get a fantastic display when you’re spending less than $250/£250 on a laptop. It just isn’t possible, therefore, you need to accept a budget Chromebook in the 11.6-inch range will have a usable but not amazing display. It’s the one thing I wish I could change about my budget Chromebook the most.
That being said, we need to keep on track here and remember how much money we are spending. If the display is important to you, and you don’t like TN panels then you’ll need to spend more money. It’s definitely true that TN panels are not the best and viewing angles are not great, but that is the way it is in this price range. You can watch my video to find out more because that’s the best way to show you what I mean. The different types of display panels for a Chromebook.
When it comes to the resolution the standard definition of 1,366 by 768 is fine. You really don’t need and would not find Full HD on a display of this size at this price. Sure, on a 14-inch display I would expect Full HD, but on an 11.6-inch it’s perfectly fine.
Budget 11.6-inch Chromebooks have the best battery life
One of the best things about owning a budget 11.6-inch Chromebook is the battery life. Sure, all Chromebooks have a decent battery life compared to other types of laptops. However, you can’t beat the battery performance you get from a budget Chromebook with a small display.
First, the processor used does not need to use so much energy to perform. Secondly, the display is smaller, which means it also uses a lot less energy compared to a larger screen. This means you get amazing battery life from these types of Chromebooks.
Samsung suggests you’ll get just over 12 hours of battery life. I would not be surprised if this isn’t the case. I charge my Acer Chromebook, which is very similar about once a week, and easily get at least ten to eleven hours of use before I need to charge it.
If you want a laptop for the tasks that most of us want a laptop for. Then you should seriously consider the Samsung Chromebook 4. It is great to look at and will easily perform the day to day tasks we want from our laptops.
It’s super lightweight, which will make it perfect for use just about anywhere. Being lightweight isn’t just an advantage when taking a laptop out with you. It also makes it much easier to manage in the home. If you’re looking for a device to buy and a budget device isn’t for you. Then take a look at my Top Ten Chromebook 2022 list.
I love my budget Chromebook a lot more than I thought I would. Sure, they lack in certain areas where higher-spec Chromebooks don’t. That being said, the benefits a budget Chromebook brings to the table cannot be overlooked. The best bit is that they are super cheap to buy.
