There are lots of Hybrid Chromebooks on the market now. Whether you’re looking for a high-spec or budget model there is plenty to choose from. This is great for anyone looking to buy a new Chromebook because it means you’ve so much choice to choose from.
The problem with having lots of choices, however, is that it can make it more difficult in choosing the right model. So let’s take a look at the Lenovo C330 Hybrid Chromebook to figure out whether it’s worth putting on your wishlist.
LENOVO C330 BUILD QUALITY
The C330 is made entirely of plastic but don’t let that put you off because you would not expect anything else from a Chromebook in this price range. When it comes to the build quality, the C330 feels solid and well built and you could definitely take this out and about without the fear of getting it damaged.
It’s a Hybrid Chromebook, which means it can be used as either a laptop or a tablet. This also means you’ve got the added functionality of a touchscreen display, which is useful in both modes. The touchscreen is responsive and works great in both laptop and tablet mode.
You get a full-sized keyboard, which is perfectly acceptable to use and you’ll have no problem writing essays all day long. The key travel is decent for a Chromebook in this price range. However, it does not have a backlight, which means it may be difficult to type with during the night. That being said, there are not many Chromebooks that do offer a backlight unless you’re willing to spend more money.
I personally like the look of the C330. It’s a cool looking Chromebook and is perfect for anyone who wants a Chromebook they can take out with them during the day. It’s pretty light too at just 1.2kg.
LENOVO C330 PERFORMANCE
Most budget Chromebooks come with an Intel Celeron processor but Lenovo has opted for a MediaTek. It’s a quad-core processor capable of speeds of up to 2.1 GHz. Daily tasks such as word processing and internet surfing are no problem at all, even a bit of number crunching in Google Sheets performs well on the Lenovo C330.
You’ll also be able to take advantage of most of the Android Apps that are currently available in the app store. The processor is powerful enough to work with Android apps without any concern. You can play Android games with decent graphics and the processor performs just fine.
However, you obviously need to be aware that this is a budget Chromebook and compromise is always needed. The MediaTek is a budget processor, so you should not expect the Lenovo C330 to perform overly well when multi-tasking. Find out more about the type of processor to look for when buying a Chromebook.
MEMORY AND STORAGE
The 4GB of memory is perfectly acceptable and you should not come across too many situations where this causes any problems. In fact, 4GB is the maximum you would expect from a budget Hybrid, so it’s a pretty decent amount of RAM. If you’re concerned about how much RAM you may need, then have a read of how much RAM do I need for my Chromebook.
In the UK the Lenovo C330 comes with 32GB of storage. This amount of storage is fine to store a few local files. However, you want to try and keep most of the storage for your Android Apps, as these are stored locally. The best way of doing this is to use a cloud storage service such as Google Drive.
If you get into the habit of storing your files in the cloud. Then you should easily be in a position to install all of your favourite Android Apps. To find out more about cloud storage on the Chromebook, have a read of why Google Drive and the Chromebook works seamlessly together.
In the USA you can get your hands on a Lenovo C330 with 64GB of storage. This is obviously an advantage over the 32GB UK model. This will allow you to install a lot more apps and storing more files locally will not become an issue. Find out more about how much storage you’ll need for your Chromebook.
LENOVO C330 DISPLAY
The C330 Lenovo Chromebook comes with an 11.6-inch display. It’s a Hybrid, so it also comes with touchscreen functionality. It also means you can use the Chromebook as a laptop or tablet. Using a Chromebook in tablet mode has improved dramatically recently thanks to updates on Chrome OS.
The resolution you get is 1,366 x 768, so it’s not true HD. However, for a display of this size that is not much of a problem. Yes, everyone would prefer a 1,080 display but you need to be realistic about what your money will get you.
The great thing about the Lenovo C330 though is the IPS panel. I was pretty impressed to see an IPS panel on a Chromebook at this price. This makes the C330 a great choice for anyone who considers the display quality to be an important factor.
The IPS panel provides great viewing angles, which do not deteriorate when viewing at an angle. It also means you get crisp images with vivid colours. I’ve always said, when you buy a Chromebook with an IPS panel you’ll never be disappointed with the quality. You can find out more about displays by reading what display should I be looking for when buying a Chromebook.
You’ll be pleased to know that the C330 comes with all the connectivity you could need. It comes with both the older USB connection, which is great for anyone who has not yet updated there peripherals to type C. For those that do have Type-C peripherals, then there is no need to worry because it also comes with a USB Type-C port.
An HDMI port is also provided, which is not that common anymore but is a great extra for anyone wanting to connect their C330 to an external display via HDMI.
Also, if you’re concerned about the amount of memory on offer. Then you’ll be happy to know the C330 comes with a Micro SD slot. This means you’ll easily be able to add extra storage at a later date without any problems.
If you’re looking for a Hybrid Chromebook without spending too much money then the Lenovo C330 is definitely one to consider. It has a good build quality and is perfect for someone who wants a Chromebook that they can take out and about with them.
The 11.6-inch display with that beautiful IPS panel is what makes the Lenovo C330 stand out from the crowd. There are not many Chromebooks at this price and display size that can offer this, so it’s definitely one of the best selling points for the C330 Chromebook.
