You can currently get your hands on the Acer 315 Chromebook with £50 off the RRP. If you’re interested then you’ve got until 31 October 2021 to act.

Acer has been making Chromebooks for a long time so it’s fair to say they know what they’re doing. Many great laptops have come from Acer such as the amazing Acer 713 Spin. Before you start hunting for your bank details. Let’s take a look at what you can expect from the Acer 315 Chromebook.

It has a 15.6-inch display

The first thing you’ll notice about this laptop is the display size. Most laptops come with a 14-inch display or smaller. The 315 boasts a 15.6-inch display. This may not be ideal for everyone, but there are a few benefits of having a display of this size.

This is the laptop I’d buy if I needed a computer for productivity. That larger display is going to help a lot. Especially true if you spend a lot of your day at work looking at figures and working on spreadsheets. Talking about spreadsheets. Another great advantage of the large display is the inclusion of a separate number pad.

If you’re anything like me where it’s all about touch-typing. Then you’ll benefit hugely from the separate number pad. It’s perfect for number crunching. I can type numbers at great speed with a proper numerical number pad. If a laptop doesn’t have one and I need to use the numbers at the top of the keyboard. Well, it slows me down dramatically.

Full HD display and IPS panel

The display also comes with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 by 1,080. It’s what you’d expect to see from a display of this size. It means you’ll be able to get a lot more information on the display.

Another great thing about the display is that it has an IPS panel. Have you ever used a laptop, which uses a cheaper TN panel? If you have then you’ll know they don’t offer the best images on the screen. They’re still useable but they are not great if you need to be using your laptop for many hours throughout the day.

The IPS panel used here means you’ll get great viewing angles and the colours will be more vivid and true to life. Exactly what you need for when being productive throughout the day. Also, perfect if you want to watch a movie on the way home from work or decide to play one of your favourite games.

It’s a laptop only device but has touchscreen

A lot of Chromebooks offer Hybrid functionality. This allows you to use the computer as either a laptop or a tablet. Although a Hybrid may be right for some. Personally speaking, I’ve never really liked using a Hybrid Chromebook in tablet mode.

Android Apps on Acer 315 Chromebook
A touchscreen makes using Android Apps a much better experience

To get the most from Chrome OS. I do strongly believe you need a touchscreen. Buying a Chromebook without a touchscreen will seriously limit your use of Android Apps. It’s good to see the Acer 315 comes with a touchscreen, as not all laptop-only devices offer this.

When buying a Chromebook it’s far more important to check it has a touchscreen rather than it being a Hybrid. Trust me, I’ve been using Chromebooks for many years and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve used one in tablet mode.

Acer 315 performance

The 315 offers all the performance you’ll need for most tasks. It comes with an Intel Pentium Silver N5030 quad-core processor. More than powerful enough to deal with all the types of productivity software you’d use on Chrome OS. It will also easily handle all the different types of Android Apps you have available from the PlayStore.

It comes with 4 GB of RAM. That may not sound like a lot but for Chrome OS it’s perfectly fine. Sure, 8 GG of RAM would give you better performance, but it would also increase the price. For what you’d be doing on this laptop the RAM is perfectly fine. Find out more about how much RAM you need for a Chromebook.

The storage at 64 GB is more than enough to install plenty of Android Apps. Local storage is best to be kept for Android Apps and the Chrome OS operating system. Everything else is best saved in the cloud. Therefore, you’ve got plenty of storage available to install a huge number of apps without running out of storage space.

If you’re after a decent laptop with a larger than normal 15.6-inch display. Then this is a good one to take a look at. When you consider what you’re getting for your money. The £50 off deal brings this Chromebook in at a very decent price.
