If you’re looking for a new Chromebook in 2021 and you’re on a budget you’ve nothing to worry about. Although you’ll now find Chromebooks, which can cost a lot of money. There is still plenty of Chromebooks to choose from even if you’re not looking to spend too much money.
This is the great thing about the Chromebook. Providing you know what you’re looking for you can find some great budget Chromebook computers. Also, a budget Chromebook does not necessarily mean you’ll be limited in what you can do. Obviously, it all comes down to the specs and the design, but we’ll take a look at this now.
Chrome OS, which is the operating system that runs on a Chromebook is very lightweight compared to other computer operating systems. This means even a Chromebook with limited specs will still be able to perform most tasks without any issues.
Chromebooks come in different sizes, so this is something you may want to consider. Generally speaking, you’ll either be looking for a 14-inch display or something smaller, which is easier to take travelling with you. So let’s take a look at the best budget Chromebooks you can get in 2021.
HP CHROMEBOOK x 360 12b
The HP x 360 12b Chromebook is a great budget Chromebook for anyone who wants a laptop they can easily carry around with them. One of the reasons why the Pixelbook Go is so successful is because it’s perfect for the traveller. Well, if you don’t want to spend the amount of money it would cost for a Pixelbook Go. Then the HP x 360 12b is the perfect alternative.
It’s a well-built laptop when you consider the price. You’d expect to see a pure plastic body at this price, so it’s great to see the base is aluminium. The lid is plastic, but it’s decent quality plastic, so it does not have any impact on how good this Chromebook looks. It weighs in at just 1.32kg/2.9lbs, which is another reason why this is perfect for anyone on the move.
It comes with an Intel Celeron processor, which is perfectly fine when buying a budget laptop. You’ll be able to surf the internet, use social media, stream HD movies without any issues. This is helped by the 4GB of RAM, which is just the right amount of memory for a laptop running a Celeron processor. The 64GB of storage is also great to see, as at this price range 32GB of storage would normally be what you’d expect to see.
The display is what makes this laptop different from other budget Chromebooks. Instead of using the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, which offers widescreen. The display offers an aspect ratio of 3:2, which means you’ll get a lot more information on the display. It’s not true HD, but the resolution of 1,366 by 912 is higher than standard SD.
If you’re after a great budget Hybrid Chromebook with a 12-inch display. Then this is definitely one you should consider. It comes with an IPS panel, so it offers great viewing angles. It’s very rare to see a 12-inch budget Chromebook that offers a decent display.
ACER 314 CB314 CHROMEBOOK
If you’re after a Chromebook with a 14-inch display without spending too much money then you will not go far wrong with the Acer CB314. This is one of my favourite budget Chromebooks currently on the market. It has everything going for it with a few things you need to consider before deciding whether it’s right for you.
First of all, it’s important to realise this is a laptop only. What I mean by that is it is not a Hybrid 2-in-1 Chromebook, so it cannot be used as a tablet. That on its own is no big issue because although I’m not against Hybrid Chromebooks; I’m not convinced a Hybrid Chromebook is essential.
However, what may be concerning for some is that it does not come with a touchscreen. This means if you were interested in using Android Apps, you may want to look elsewhere. You can still use Android apps, but without a touchscreen it’s not a pleasant experience.
What does make this Acer laptop a great budget buy is the display and excellent connectivity. Finding a budget Chromebook with a great display can sometimes be a challenge. So you’ll be really happy to know the Acer 314 comes with Full HD resolution of 1,920 by 1,080. What makes it stand out from other budget laptops is the IPS panel, which means the display looks great viewing from any angle.
It’s a budget device, so it does come with an Intel Celeron processor, but this isn’t something you should be too concerned about when buying a budget laptop. It comes with 4GB of RAM, which is more than enough for most tasks. It’s a little low on storage at just 32GB for the basic model, but it can be found with 64GB of storage. Due to the excellent connectivity, you can easily add storage at a later date by using the Micro SD slot.
