We have all been showing great interest in the latest Asus Chromebook C434. We are lucky enough to have new Chromebooks launched pretty regularly now, but this one is special. That has something to do with it being built to replace the much loved Asus C302. Arguably the most popular Chromebook to date, so it makes sense that we’ve all been getting excited about the launch of the Asus C434 Chromebook. Well, the wait is finally over.
Asus C434 Build Quality
The build quality of the Asus C434 Chromebook is simply fantastic. It really shows that Asus is serious about being one of the most respected manufacturers when it comes to Chromebooks. The aluminium lid, which continues inside when opening the Asus C434, not only looks really cool, it makes it one sturdy Chromebook.
One of my pet hates when it comes to Chromebooks or any laptop for that matter. Is the huge borders you sometimes get around the display. It makes the laptop look cheap and it’s also a waste of valuable space. Asus obviously feel the same way because the Asus C434 Chromebook has some of the thinnest bezels I’ve ever seen on a Chromebook.
This is great to see because it makes the Asus C434 look super cool. It’s so cool in fact you cannot stop looking at the thin bezels. You will definitely not be embarrassed to get your Asus C434 Chromebook out in public. The Asus C434 not only looks great compared to any other Chromebook. It also looks great compared to any other laptop out there on the market.
Having thin bezels is not all about making a laptop look cool though. It also means you are taking advantage of the space you have on offer. This allows the Asus C434 to sport a 14-inch display in a body that is not much bigger than the Asus C302 with its 12.5-inch display.
There was some confusion over the weight of the Asus C434 before it was launched. However, the Asus C434 weighs in at just 1.45kg. Compare that to the Asus C302 at 1.25kg; there is very little difference in weight when you consider you are getting a 14-inch display.
Asus C434 Performance
At the moment there is only one build type of the Asus C434 both in the USA and UK. However, the UK was supposed to have access to three processor types on launch. At the moment, only the one model is available, which is the Intel Core M3 model. This is the lowest level model to be launched, so we are still waiting on the Intel i5 and Intel i7 models to be available in the UK.
That being said the Intel M3 still shows impressive performance. It can deal with most tasks that you can think of doing on a Chromebook. Whether that is surfing the internet or using the vast array of Android Apps available. The Asus C434 with the M3 processor copes perfectly well.
This is due to the Intel M3 processor coming with two cores that can cope with speeds from 1.10 GHz to 3.40 GHz. It also comes with a 4MB cache, which makes regular processes run much faster. This helps with the overall performance when using the Asus C434 on a daily basis.
Asus C434 Memory (RAM)
The standard model that is currently available comes with 4GB of RAM. This is more than enough for most of the tasks that you will want to carry out.
About a year ago 4GB of RAM on a Chromebook was more than enough. However, with the introduction of Android Apps and the ability to multi-task. You may find the 4GB of RAM available here struggles if working with the most demanding of applications.
You may also see the laptop struggle if you are one for multi-tasking. A few apps and windows open at the same time causes no problems. However, if you stretch the Asus C434 more than this, then you will notice how the 4GB of RAM available is holding you back.
If you are looking for a Chromebook that is truly future proof. Then you may want to wait until the Intel i5 and i7 models are released. Both of these models come with 8GB of RAM, which will be more than enough for what you need today and in the future.
Asus C434 Storage
The storage that comes with the Asus C434 is more than enough. The basic model comes with 128GB. This will allow you to install your favourite Android Apps and any other applications you love to use on your Chromebook without any issues.
It’s good to see Asus have gone with 128GB rather than 64GB. This makes it future proof when considering the amount of Android Apps you might want to install. Also, we need to remember Linux Apps is still being worked on. Once Linux Apps is truly available, you will be happy you chose a Chromebook with 128GB of storage. Providing you make the most of the Chromebook cloud computing capability, you should not come across any issues of running out of storage space.
Asus C434 Display
This is where I get rather excited about the Asus C434. When you consider this Chromebook is set to replace the Asus C302. It needed to have a really decent display. The Asus C434 definitely does not let us down.
Firstly, the thin bezels, which means there are no ugly huge borders around the display look stunningly fantastic. Usually, you get thin bezels at the top and on both sides of the display. The Asus C434 goes one step further, as you also get thin bezels at the bottom of the display. This really takes advantage of all the space that is on offer.
The Asus NanoEdge technology helps to squeeze a full 14-inch display into a chassis that is just 13 inches. The bezels at just 5mm really gets you engrossed with what you are working on. Whether that is internet surfing or watching the latest Game of Thrones on the way to work.
The display on offer on the Asus C434 is without question one of the best displays available on a Chromebook. The 14-inches available really makes a difference if comparing it to the 12.5-inch display on the Asus C302.
The full HD touch-screen display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution provides amazingly crisp images. The IPS technology also provides great viewing at any angle. You’ll definitely be impressed with the display on offer here.
The Asus C434 Keyboard
One of the great things about the Asus C302 was the keyboard. You’ll be happy to know the Asus C434 will not let you down in this area. Those lovely keys and that key travel when typing provides a fantastic typing experience.
Having a good keyboard is something I’ve always needed personally. Being able to touch type at over 60 words per minute. The ability to sit at a laptop and just type away is absolutely essential. The keyboard on the Asus C434 Chromebook does not let me down. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best keyboards available on any laptop.
Where Asus has gone one step further with the Asus C434 is the ErgoLift hinge technology. When you open the Asus C434 the bottom of the display raises the keyboard slightly. This makes it much easier to type with than having to type on a keyboard that is flat to the surface. It’s a clever design and anyone who needs a Chromebook for typing will be happy with the slight lift it provides the keyboard.
Asus C434 Connectivity
I think Asus has made a really smart move when it comes to the ports available on the Asus C434 Chromebook. I was happy that the Asus C302 adopted the USB type C connection, as this is definitely the way forward. However, the Asus C302 had no USB 3.1 connections. This meant having to buy new peripherals if your current external devices such as a mouse used the older USB 3.1 connection.
The Asus C434 provides both the USB type C and the USB 3.1. This is a good move because I don’t think we are ready just yet to give up on our peripherals using the older 3.1 connection. This makes the Asus C434 more compatible than the Asus C302.
The Asus C434 Chromebook is without question a Chromebook worth considering. There has been a lot of decent Chromebooks launched recently, but you will not go wrong if you decide to upgrade to the Asus C434.
It not only looks fantastic, but it’s also great to use. The display, keyboard and build quality of the Asus C434 make it a worthwhile replacement of the Asus C302. I was worried whether Asus would be able to bring to market a Chromebook that could replace the Asus C302. They have definitely succeeded with this.
The only thing you need to consider at the moment is whether the basic model currently on offer is enough for your needs. The processor and RAM available can cope with most tasks you could throw at it. However, if you are looking to replace a Chromebook that is truly future proof. Then you may want to wait for the higher spec models to be launched.
I’m really happy with the Asus C434. It is a great addition to the Chromebook family.
