Asus C223 Chromebook for just £179.99 at Argos

I think I’ve become rather critical about what I expect to see from a Chromebook. This is because if you want to get the most out of a Chrome OS laptop I’d expect to see things like a touchscreen. This is because Android Apps if a great addition to Chrome OS. Although you can use Android Apps without a touchscreen. You may have an issue with some apps, especially gaming apps.

That being said, I need to remember what attracted me to the Chromebook all those years ago. It was because you could get your hands on a laptop at a really decent price that just worked. I think this has made me change my opinion on how I look at Chrome OS laptops in the future. Not everyone is interested in having a touchscreen, and some people are perfectly fine if the display isn’t going to offer fantastic visuals. These people are looking for a laptop that works without spending too much money.

If you’re looking for a laptop like this. Then you may be interested in the Asus C223 Chromebook. It’s currently on offer at Argos for just £179.99. The Asus C223 has been around for a long time. However, Asus has given it a nice revamp and is now offered in a striking red chassis. I personally think it looks pretty cool, and a great advantage is how small and lightweight this Chromebook is. Not much bigger than an A4 piece of paper and weighing in at just under 1kg. This makes it an excellent choice for someone who wants a laptop to use on the move.

WHAT IS THE ASUS C223 CAPABLE OF

The Asus C223 is a real back to basics Chromebook. Something similar to what you would have seen back in 2011. The only main difference is you now have the ability to use Android Apps. Although it’s a basic laptop, that doesn’t mean you’ll not be happy owning one of these. It looks nice and for the price, it’s a fantastic bargain. If you’re looking for a laptop to surf the internet, use social media, stream movies then this laptop is perfect.

You’ll also be able to use it for productivity purposes as well. This is thanks to all Chrome OS computers having access to Google Docs. This includes a word processor, spreadsheet program and something called Slides, which is very similar to PowerPoint. The great thing about the Chromebook is you don’t need to have a lot of processing power to do all of these things.

Asus C223 Chromebook

It comes with an Intel Celeron dual-core processor, which is just what you’d expect from a budget laptop. By using this type of processor it allows the manufacturer to offer a laptop at a decent price. It will easily cope with dealing with all of the tasks I’ve mentioned above, so you don’t need to worry about whether this laptop can perform those type of tasks. It comes with 4 GB of RAM, which is more than enough for a Chromebook of this type. Find out more about how much RAM you need for your Chromebook.

ASUS C223 DISPLAY

The display is 11.6-inches, which means this is a smaller laptop compared to the more traditional display size of 14-inches. This makes it perfect for anyone who wants a small device to use in the home or on your travels. The resolution offered is 1,366 by 768, which is a Standard Definition (SD). This means you’ll not be able to stream movies in Full HD 1080. However, this is not something you need to be too concerned about when you consider the display size. Expecting a Full HD display from an 11.6-inch display at this price is unrealistic.

It uses a TN panel, which means it will be fine to use if you have the laptop directly in front of you. You may notice the quality of the display deteriorates when viewing at an angle, which is something TN panels are known for. If this is something you’ll struggle with, then it’s best to look for a Chromebook that comes with an IPS panel. Something else you’ll need to consider is Android Apps. Because this laptop does not come with a touchscreen. It does mean you may find it difficult to use some of the Android Apps available.

BUY THIS CHROMEBOOK IF

You’re after a cheap laptop to surf the internet, use social media, stream movies and use productivity software. Productivity software such as Google Docs and the thousands of productivity apps available in the play store. You’re happy with a Chromebook offering reasonable performance.

DON’T BUY THIS CHROMEBOOK IF

You like an excellent display that does not deteriorate when viewing from an angle. It’s fine for one person to use this laptop if sitting directly in front of it. However, it would not be ideal if you like to share your laptop display with someone sitting next to you. This laptop isn’t ideal if you like to use Android Apps that work better with a touchscreen display.
