The Acer 311 Chromebook is a budget Chromebook due to the processor used. However, that isn’t to say this isn’t the right Chromebook for you. What it has on its side is that it is highly portable and not only looks tough and durable, it actually is. This is because it has been tested and met the standards of MIL-STD 810G. A certification which, shows this laptop was able to withstand certain tests and still function as normal. This is perfect for anyone who needs a Chromebook they don’t need to be over delicate with. Perfect for the classroom because of this and for just about anyone worried about getting a laptop that can easily break.
Acer has been making Chromebooks for many years. They’ve provided us with some great laptops and Chrome OS desktop computers. Whether you’re after a budget or high spec Chrome OS computer. Then you’ll easily find one from the Acer Range.
This is the perfect Chromebook for anyone looking to not spend too much money. The processor is from the budget range available, but it will still perform a lot of tasks you’ll want to carry out on your Chromebook without any issues. This includes internet surfing, social media, word processing, spreadsheets and a whole lot more. Most of the Android Apps should work perfectly fine with this Chromebook.
It comes with 4GB of RAM, which is more than enough for the processor used here. You’ll easily be able to carry out all your daily tasks without worrying about not having enough RAM. The storage at 32GB is arguably a little on the small side. That being said, you’ll still be able to install a few Android Apps and have storage left over for other files. To make the most of the Chromebook you should try to avoid storing files locally and save them in the cloud using Google Drive. This will also ensure you’re not using your valuable storage space for unnecessary file storage.

The display offers a standard definition of 1366 x 768, so you’ll not be able to play Full HD movies of 1,920 by 1,080. However, this is nothing to be concerned about when you consider the price of this Chromebook. You would not find a laptop with an 11.6-inch display that comes with Full HD at this price. A larger display such as a 14-inch with SD resolution would look poor, but the SD resolution on this display size will look fine.
It does not come with a touchscreen, which does mean some Android Apps may be harder to use. This will be more noticeable if you like Android App games because most of these work better with a touchscreen display. If a touchscreen is important to you, then this Chromebook is not going to be the right choice.

|How to avoid a poor display when buying a Chromebook
The Acer 311 is a laptop only. This means it cannot be used as a tablet. This is something you’ll need to consider before buying this laptop. Although Hybrid Chromebooks, which can be used as a laptop and tablet are good. They are not necessarily a replacement for an actual tablet. What is more important than a Chromebook being a Hybrid is that it comes with a touchscreen. The Acer 311 lacks both of these, so you’ll need to decide whether a laptop only Chrome OS device is right for you.
The main limitations of this are taking full advantage of what Android Apps can offer. If you’ll be using the Chromebook to surf the internet, watch videos and for some word processing and spreadsheet work. Then the lack of a touchscreen should not be an issue.

All Chromebooks receive essential updates on a regular basis. This means the operating system Chrome OS will automatically update when new updates are available. These updates can improve the OS and offer new functionality. They can also include vital security updates, which will help keep you safe and secure when working online.
To ensure the Chrome OS operating system is not held back by older Chrome OS laptops. They all come with an Auto Update Expiry Date (AUE Date). The AUE date is how long the laptop will continue to receive Chrome OS updates. After this date, the Chromebook may no longer receive updates to the operating system.

CONNECTIVITY & OTHER SPECS
The Acer 311 comes with one older type USB port and one newer USB Type C connection. This is good to see because it means you’ll be able to use older peripherals, which do not support USB Type C. A webcam and headphone/microphone port are provided, which means you can use this laptop for video internet calls.
It does lack the ability to add further storage down the line using a Micro SD card. This is because it does not come with a Micro SD slot. It would have been nice to see a Micro SD slot available. However, it’s important to remember adding further storage would only allow you to store more files locally. It would not allow you to install more Android Apps. This is because Android Apps can only be installed on internal storage.
